About Me

About Pauletta Hatchett

Since my childhood years, I desired to be a doctor or physical therapist helping people who were experiencing physical pain and injury. However, growing up in the inner city of Cleveland did not afford me the opportunity to train in these professions, nevertheless, I still had the desire to serve these types of people. My path to becoming a Specialist in Exercise Therapy was not linear, but instead, included some mountains, valleys, and detours. As a former athlete, I had a history of preparing myself physically and had special interest in health, anatomy, exercise physiology, aerobics, and sports like track & field, cheerleading, and volleyball. These passions along with having a sister who was partially blind with some health problems made me sensitive and aware of the needs and deficits of others.  Later in life, although it appeared that I was in great health, I had major surgery and a subsequent surgery which caused me to take a closer look at my health and habits below the surface.

I had to become aware of and take a look at my own deficits and needs -- make the necessary changes and life adjustments; and realize how much hard work, time, energy, therapy, and focus that it took to overcome these needs -- and then, press on to successfully re-establish new lifelong practices. This process was the catalyst for me to change and to launch into the deep by helping others walk through their process and do the same. It was necessary for me to take the needed time to examine my foundations, simplify processes, and begin rebuilding my life differently from the inside out so that healing and recovery could best occur.  That is what motivated me to become a Specialist in Exercise Therapy -- because the role affords me to continue the process not only for myself, but also for others.

In addition to my various health and fitness credentials, I am a Certified Advanced Grief Recovery Method Specialist trained through the Grief Recovery Institute. https://www.griefrecoverymethod.com/grms/pauletta-hatchett

I believe that I am uniquely prepared and equipped with deep and wide experience through multiple professions and venues that have allowed me to serve, empower, and manage others with sensitivity, care, knowledge, wisdom, and expertise. My last work experience was being the Department Manager of Pregnancy Health and At-Risk Populations for one of the largest hospital systems in northeast Ohio, and prior to that, holding a community health position in chronic disease. My credentials also include being a Senior Chaplain, Board Certified Mental Health Coach, and Mental Health First Aid Instructor. My heart of listening to people during their weakest times was cultivated by visiting the sick in hospitals and nursing homes, and being present with my aging mother while she was in hospice.  As a Specialist in Exercise Therapy, I bring these skills, gifts, talents, and experience with me to further train and encourage clients who cross my path.

Life Experience can Change Your Life

After experiencing a stroke as a result of a congenital malformation in my brain that I was born with and experiencing temporary cognitive and auditory deficits, needless to say, my life is different. I have personally walked through a lengthy and arduous process of healing and extensive therapy that included being in ICU, a rehab hospital, in-hospital occupational and physical therapy, in-home therapies, outpatient therapies, and post-rehab exercise therapy.

LIFE EXPERIENCE and formal training were my greatest types of preparation and motivation when I had a goal to become a Specialist in Exercise Therapy.  As a long-term health care and fitness professional, it is now time for me to help, encourage, train, and support others through my preparation and work as a Certified Specialist in Exercise Therapy. Therefore, I am making myself available to people (and organizations who know people) who need additional support during their rehab or who want to work more on their goals for healing, restoration, and recovery.

Through this humbling, difficult journey, and vulnerable experience, I believe that I have been specially prepared and equipped me to serve others. I am also using my experience and background to serve as a Stroke Awareness Ambassador for the American Heart Association by spreading education and awareness on how to recognize a stroke, what to do, and stroke prevention methods to adopt by making healthy choices and controlling unhealthy conditions.

This "life experience changed my life and through it, I discovered a newfound purpose."  That's what happened to me!
